Madagascar      October 14th to 31st 2012

I have started this page with Mammals as these were the main interest of the trip followed with Birds then Invertebrates and lastly Plants.
Mammals

Lemurs - Indri family
        Indri Lemur (Indri indri) seen in Analamazaotra Reserve
  

        and in Mitsinjo Private Reserve


        and the dark form in Anjozorobe.


        Verreaux's Sifaca (Propithecus verreaux verreaux)  This species of Sifaka was seen in Benza Mahafaly Reserve in 2007
.
 

        Diademed Sifaka (Propithecus diadema diadema)  Seen in the Analamazaotra Reserve Andasibe.


Lemurs - Woolly family
        Eastern Woolly Lemur (Avahi laniger)    seen in Anjozorobe

        Ring-tailed Lemur (Lemur catta) seen in Anjaha Reserve in 2007

        Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur (Varecia variegata variegata) seen in Mantadia National Park.

        Brown Lemur (Eulemur fulvus fulvus)  seen in the Analamazaotra Reserve Andasibe.


        Sanford's Brown Lemur (Eulemer fulvus sanfordi)  seen in Montagne d'Ambre National Park.


        Crowned Lemur (Eulemur coronatus) seen in Ankarana West Reserve.

        Red-bellied Lemur (Eulemur rubriventer) seen in Mantadia National Park.



        Black Lemur (Eulemur macao) seen in Lokobe Reserve.


Bamboo Lemurs - family Hapalemur
        Eastern Grey Bamboo Lemur (Hapalemur griseus griseus) seen in Analamazaotra Reserve



Dwarf Lemurs - family Cheirogaleus
        Greater Dwarf Lemur (Cheirogaleus major) seen beside the road Andasibe

Sportive Lemurs - family Megaladapidae sub family Lepilemurinae       
        Northern Sportive Lemur (Lepilemur septentrionalis
) seen in Ankarana West Reserve.



        Grey-backed Sportive Lemur (Lepilemur dorsalis) seen in Lokobe Reserve.



        Small-toothed Sportive Lemur (Lepilemur microdon) seen in Anjozorobe.


        White-footed Sportive Lemur (Lepilemur leucopus) seen in Benza Mahafaly Reserve in 2007.

Fosa (Cryptoprocta ferox) seen in Ankarana West Reserve the main predator of Lemurs.

There are 67 species in Madagascar and here are photos of some of them.  Some I have been able to identify but others keep changing colour!

These are thought to be Panther Chameleon (Furcifer pardalis) but could be White-lined Chameleon (Furcifer lateralis) or could be?.
